Lashdance

Here’s part two to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara vs. IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara. On Saturday, I participated in Relay for Life. My team was WUTT: Spartan Radio and our theme was the Loch Ness Monster. None of that is relevant. I did put on some mascara on Saturday however. Here’s what it looked like:

I didn’t put on any other eye make-up.

This morning, I got up late and had to shower, and was also feeling particularly lazy so I chose to also just put on mascara. Here’s that:

I don’t know about you, but all three times, I have felt that the IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara has done better than the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. It seems to go on better, separate better, and I think it comes off easier as well. For the travel sized IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara, which is the size that came in my GlamBag all that time ago, it is $12 at Ulta. The full sized tube is $24. The travel size of the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara is also $12, the full sized at $23.

Personally, mascara isn’t something that I feel inclined to spend that much money on because, as I said in my previous post, a lot of them are the same. I think that spending a little extra on a primer is definitely the thing to do though. Primer just adds more for the mascara to stick to so that you get more out of every swipe and that is something that I have greatly benefitted from.

Flashy Lashes

It may not seem like it, but eyelashes are very important to your make-up routine. When I am too lazy to put on all of my make-up, I will usually go with eyebrows and eyelashes because I feel like I still look more put-together with just those two elements than with nothing. That said, finding a mascara that really works for you and does what you want with your lashes can be hard. Mine are especially difficult because I have never figured out how to properly curl them with an eyelash curler and even when it seems like I have, they don’t seem to want to cooperate anyways. This means I need to find a mascara that lengthens, volumizes, and curls all at the same time.

Something that you may hear is that the mascara formula doesn’t matter, it is all about the wand. I have found that this is true to a degree. The wand (also known as a spoolie) is very important. They are all different shapes and sizes because they are meant to do different things. The formula is still important though. In a recent GlamBag review, I talked about the BellaPierre Cosmetics Volumelash Waterproof Mascara and how I was not a fan of the formula because it felt too light. This was never a problem that I has encountered before; I’d only found that mascaras were too thick and clumpy (something easily fixed with a bit of saline solution). So formula can still be an issue.

This morning, I decided to test two different mascaras I had gotten from ipsy and see which I liked better than the other. Keep in mind, this is without curling first, and with the added primer before the actual mascara application. I’ll leave this one big so you can really see it.

On the left I am wearing Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara and on the right I am wearing IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara in Super Black. Both of these were mascaras that I really liked when I tried them, but I’d never tried to pit them against each other. They seem to have similar formulas but very different brushes. I didn’t do the greatest job of applying evenly this morning because I was in a rush, but you can still see some differences between the two. I am going to try this a few more days and report back when I have more data to go off of, but right now, I think one is definitely winning.

Now, because that picture is kind of weird, here’s another picture I took that you can’t see my lashes as well but you can see my wings. And they look great. Enjoy.

February ipsy GlamBag 1/5

img_3866I am finally in possession of my February GlamBag. I would love to review all of the products at once but I did not use them all this morning so you’re getting the review broken down into five. This also gives me more to post about so heyyyyyyyyy.

This morning, the first product I tried out to the February GlamBag was the bellapierre cosmetics volumeLASH Waterproof Mascara. I love mascara. It is one of the most important pieces of make-up in my kit. I don’t, however, like waterproof mascara or much other waterproof make-up in general. It is supposed to stay on through water (it doesn’t usually) and is supposed to be able to come off pretty easily with make-up remover (another thing it is not known for). I like the bellapierre things I’ve gotten in the past though, so I’m giving this a try.

To start out, this is not a sample mascara but a full tube, something that is always appreciated. Going into the product itself, the formula seems to be thinner and lighter than others that I usually use. I think that this is the reason I am not super enamored with this mascara as when I applied it, it was hard to tell I had any on. This could also be due to the fact that I don’t have much mascara primer left, but this product itself also just felt different and like it was not adhering to my lashes.

I will get more primer soon and try again, but on first impressions alone, I am not impressed.
